Host Family Friendship Program

“Love foreigners as you love yourselves.” – Leviticus 19:34 NCV

Northwest Indiana is the home of over 600 International Students from countries around the world like China, Saudi Arabia and India. Most of these students will never enter an American home or have a close friendship with an American.

You can change that.

This is an amazing opportunity follow Jesus and love our (international) neighbors — without ever leaving the country. They are far from home, but through you they can know God’s love and hospitality.

This is a friendship ministry — so students don’t live with you. (We use the word “host” because it highlights “hospitality” to international students). This ministry seeks to provide willing students with loving Christian families to come alongside them in their time in the USA. This is a great way to live out our Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) in a local way. For more details, see the ministry Vision, Values and Beliefs.

What should I expect:

First you’ll apply to become a volunteer and go through the orientation.

Then we will match you with students to befriend. Before we introduce you over email, we’ll share the student’s information with you to confirm.

We hold one Welcome Party in October for PNW and Aviation students, and another in May for Aviation students. This is an important way to meet your students for the first time!

After that, you can connect with students on your own for the rest of the year. We will provide optional training mornings and send a monthly newsletter. We’re here to help you have a great experience!
